Dr. Cech’s presentation included an overview of the BioFrontiers Institute, founded to advance human health and welfare by exploring critical frontiers of unknown biology, educate a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists and empower them to work together, and to leverage and expand Colorado’s leadership in biotechnology.   

“Boulder’s Research Economy” presentation by Richard Wobbekind, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder at the 2012 Boulder Economic Summit.  Dr. Wobbekind’s presentation included a brief economic update, outlined the area’s research infrastructure, described how research funding helps fuel Boulder’s economy, and provided insight about the importance of preserving the research pipeline. 

“Economic Growth through Innovation” presentation by Becca Montgomery, State Policy Director, and Monisha Merchant, Senior Advisor for Business Affairs, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet’s Office at the 2012 Boulder Economic Summit. Their presentation outlined some of the steps that Senator Bennet and others in Congress are taking to speed the nation’s recovery.

“Colorado’s Blueprint for Innovation” presentation by Ken Lund, Executive Director, Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade at the 2012 Boulder Economic Summit. Mr. Lund’s presentation included an overview of the Colorado Innovation Network (COIN), a statewide program designed to bring public, private, and academic organizations together to 1) build a business environment that fosters innovation, 2) retain jobs and support growth in key industry clusters, 3) pursue capital for project funding, 4) establish Colorado’s reputation as the most innovative state, 5) create a workforce with the right talent and job skills, and6) develop innovation-oriented performance metrics.
