Foreclosure filings down 26.7%
December 6, 2011 – Daily Camera - Foreclosure filings through November 2011 are down 28.6% in the state, according to a recently released Colorado Division of Housing report. Boulder County saw a decline of 26.7%.
CU Opens New Art Museum
September 30, 2010 – The Denver Post - Art museums up and down the Front Range have experienced an unprecedented building boom in the past five years: The Denver Art Museum – a $110 million addition. Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center – a $30 million renovation and expansion. Museum of Contemporary Art Denver - a $15.9 million building. The latest institution to join the list is the University of Colorado at Boulder Art Museum, which has just opened the doors on the first-ever stand-alone building in its 71-year history. The three-story, 25,000-square-foot structure is part of the school’s $63.5 million Visual Arts Complex, which also contains a second, much larger building housing the department of art and art history.
Boulder: Where innovation is hip
July 25, 2010 – The Denver Post – Boulder is one of the hottest places in the country to launch a company. Startups there received 42 percent of the venture capital invested in Colorado from 2006 to 2009, and 8,900 businesses of fewer than 20 employees call Boulder County home. Four industry clusters – software, biotechnology, natural foods and outdoor products – are thriving in the Boulder area, and clean tech appears to be on a similar path.
Boulder Economic Summit looks at future
June 2, 2010 - Daily Camera – Nearly 300 business and community leaders attended the 2010 Boulder Economic Summit. The event, “Boulder in 2035: Opportunities and Insights”, was presented by the Boulder Economic Council and University of Colorado at Boulder. Keynote speakers included DaVinci Institute futurist Thomas Frey, who shared insights about what we could see by 2035 based on current trends, and University of Colorado economist Richard Wobbekind who described economic trends and consequences facing Boulder. The summit also included panel discussions of experts in several “industries of the future”.
Boulder a “Best City for the Next Decade”
July 2010 – Kiplinger’s Personal Finance - Boulder was ranked #4 on the magazine’s list of the ten ”Best Cities for the Next Decade”. According to the magazine, the city is where “science meets scenery” and “an intellectual hot spot where environmental and scientific ideas blossom into businesses.”
