September 9, 2009 – The Denver Post – The nation’s first functioning electricity “smart grid” is now operating in Boulder. How smart is Xcel Energy’s $100 million SmartGridCity that will ultimately enable Boulder residents to keep track of their energy use day to day? It’s so smart that it knew there was a power outage in one neighborhood 34 minutes before the first resident called the utility.
September 2009 – The University of Colorado at Boulder was ranked #1 with a perfect score of 100 in Sierra magazine’s third annual ranking of America’s Top 20 greenest campuses. The ranking is based on efficiency, energy, food, academics, purchasing, transporation, waste management, and administration.
September 9, 2009 – Daily Camera – Nobel-prize winning scientist Tom Ceck believes cutting-edge research is hindered when labs are scattered in silos across campus and scientists work behind closed doors. So he sees tremendous promise in the University of Colorado’s forthcoming biotechnology building, which will bring scientists from eight departments under one roof so they can collaborate and explore complex medical problems, looking to develop new therapies for cancer, infectious diseases and cardiovascular disease.
September 1, 2009 – City of Boulder - The city of Boulder unveiled today its newly reorganized Department of Community Planning and Sustainability, which integrates the former Planning Department, Office of Environmental Affairs, Economic Vitality and Community Sustainability programs. The reorganization integrates the city’s economic, social and environmental sustainability efforts into ongoing planning practices. The new organizational structure also creates efficiencies, streamlines communications between workgroups, and supports important community initiatives.
